Sahel AI Lab's mission is to make AI safe and beneficial for everyone. We do this through research on AI risks, developing AI for social good, and building capacity in AI governance.
AI Governance Fellowship
A 4-month AI Safety Program
This is an online AI Governance Fellowship designed to help African lawyers transition into careers in AI policy and governance. The program includes training in AI fundamentals, AI safety, and hands-on projects.
How it works
The first two months include weekly 2-hour live sessions and bi-weekly 1-hour inspiration sessions with industry experts. In the final two months, you'll work on collaborative projects, applying what you've learned to tackle real-world AI governance challenges.

Core Modules
AI Fundamentals
In this module, you'll learn the basics of AI, including key concepts, how AI systems work, and their impact on society. This foundation will help you understand AI and the opportunities and risks they present.

AI Governance & Policy
This module focuses on the key aspects of AI governance. You'll learn about AI ethics, regulatory approaches, and how policies can shape the development and use of AI to ensure it benefits society.

Collaborative Project
In this phase, you'll work in teams to tackle real-world AI governance challenges. By applying what you've learned, you'll develop practical solutions that address pressing issues in AI policy and ethics.
2 months
Research
We conduct research in AI governance to address AI risks, with a focus on AI alignment, fairness, and compute governance.

ESQ: AI for Social Good
Our legal AI platform, ESQ, helps organizations fight corruption in contracts, increasing transparency and integrity in the contracting process.
